Precast Concrete COLA lifted into place at Mount Annan Christian College

Months of design development and offsite fabrication came together in a matter of hours this week, as the precast concrete structure for MACC’s new Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA) was lifted into place. And the school barely noticed!

While lessons carried on, five precast sections rose just metres from the classrooms. Most students and teachers were probably none the wiser that a major milestone was happening right beside them.

That’s Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) at work. Fabricating offsite meant fast, low-disruption erection on site. The design used repeatable, standardised panels and connection details, which cut waste and delivered a level of accuracy and manufacturing efficiency that traditional in-situ construction struggles to match.

Each “Goal Post” is two vertical concrete blades supporting an 11-tonne custom concrete box gutter overhead. Every section is fully self-supporting, standing on its own ahead of the steel roof structure to follow. When complete, it will give MACC students a protected, all-weather space to learn outdoors.

Congratulations to the entire project team on a smooth and safe lift.
