Prime Constructions successfully delivered the Judith Poole Sports Hall at Abbotsleigh School – a landmark multi-purpose facility completed in 2015. The project is a pivotal element of the school’s campus master plan, integrating seamlessly with remnant bushland while consolidating the school’s sporting precinct.

The facility features three indoor multi-sports courts, indoor rock-climbing walls, function and teaching rooms, and offices, alongside a raised artificial sports field with a 100m running track. Two large undercover car parks provide 166 spaces, concealed beneath the field to take advantage of the site’s topography. Natural ventilation is achieved via multi-louvres, and a 60-metre garden trench harvests rainwater, exemplifying sustainable design. The building’s curved steel façades, perforated acoustic linings and seamless roofline create a visually dynamic form that reflects energy and movement. Construction involved precise environmental and structural planning to integrate with the bushland setting, control glare and heat, and manage underground parking.

Recognised for design and innovation, the project won the 2018 WAN Architectural Award for Sport in Architecture and the 2015 MBA Excellence in Construction Award for Sporting Facilities and Best Use of Structural Steel. The Judith Poole Sports Hall stands as a benchmark for high-performance, sustainable sports architecture.
