Kurrajong Building – Barker College
Prime Constructions delivered the Kurrajong Building at Barker College, a purpose-built facility for the Junior Prep School. The building provides modern, flexible learning environments for students from Pre-K to Year 2, supporting technology-rich programs including coding, entrepreneurialism, and social media learning, while integrating with the school’s broader Junior School campus.
The facility comprises two levels of classrooms and administrative spaces over a basement car park, with an elevated, secure outdoor play area featuring climbing walls, cubby houses, and water play elements. The design follows the Reggio Emilia philosophy, creating a central “village square” that fosters community engagement between students, staff, and parents. Seven General Learning Areas, a café/canteen, staff rooms, and flexible teaching spaces are complemented by abundant natural light and technology integration.
Sustainability and environmental performance were central to the project, with 14kW solar panels, daylight harvesting sensors, and energy monitoring systems, along with face brickwork, glazing, and painted cladding to harmonise with the campus.
Constructed within a live school environment, Prime Constructions carefully managed timelines, site logistics, and safety. The Kurrajong Building delivers an innovative, engaging, and future-focused learning environment, forming a key part of Barker College’s campus master plan.
